Pet First Aid Kit

As part of a pet first aid kit, you can include:

  • Your veterinarian’s phone number
  • The pet emergency hospital phone number and directions
  • The pet poison control phone number: ASPCA 1-888-426-4435 – $65 consultation fee (at time of printing)
  • Self cling bandage (such as vet wrap)
  • Adhesive tape
  • Gauze pads (nonstick)
  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Scissors (blunt ends)
  • Tweezers
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Disposable gloves
  • Digital thermometer and water-based lube
  • Blanket / towels
  • Styptic powder or sticks

Items that may be used after contacting your veterinarian or poison control:

  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Activated charcoal
  • Benadryl (diphenhydramine)
  • Pedialyte
  • Karo syrup

Also handy in a first aid kit and a disaster kit:

  • Pets’ paperwork (vaccine history, microchip number, medical history) sealed in a waterproof container
  • Collar, harness, leash
  • Pet carrier

Disaster kits can include:

  • Pet food (at least enough for one week)
  • Bottled water
  • Dishes
  • Pets’ medications
  • Litter and tray
  • Garbage bags
  • Flashlight
  • Toys
  • Bag to hold all supplies
